Job Description:
Job Purpose
Manage contract for services with the City of Anacortes tourism
fund with a focus on bringing visitors to Anacortes by exploring
and negotiating advertising opportunities and creating promotional
packages. Manage annual chamber and non-chamber produced event
advertising using tourism funds and guidelines.
Responsible for high volume website management. Participate on
committees with city, county, and state in regards to Tourism.
Develop and maintain relationships with travel industry
influencers. Research new advertising opportunities and negotiate
rates. Expand advertising reach through distribution of press
releases, local print/poster, earned media campaigns, and social
media.
A primary function involves oversight and operation of the Visitor
Information Center (VIC). Inherent in this responsibility is
recruitment, scheduling, training, stocking of relevant materials,
communications, and daily management.
Occasional frontline customer service, assist in answering phones,
and day-to-day office functions to include full administrative
duties.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
City Tourism Fund Management
Apply to City of Anacortes to be recipient of LTAC funds and
Capital Requests; Manage other grant opportunities as needed.
Ensure timely reimbursement of grant monies.
Prepare an annual presentation that educates city council, chamber
board and tourism committee on the effectiveness of our tourism
marketing efforts.
Research appropriate advertising venues, negotiate best rate, and
prepare compelling ads. Continually measure effectiveness of
advertising outlets using Google Analytic Campaigns, SEO, and SEM
to maximize and increase return on investment. Work in tandem with
the City and Port of Anacortes to execute marketing for the
Maritime Strategic Plan.
Produce Experience Anacortes Newsletter including layout, format,
expansion of distribution and collaboration with writers and
division on annual editorial calendar.
Expand reach of social media ( up to 8 accounts) with coordinated
effort.
Represent Anacortes on State and Regional Tourism Boards and
Membership Organizations.
Create partnerships with community organizations to produce quality
content for Experience Anacortes Brand
Design, write, and distribute Experience Anacortes Brand materials
including trifold brochure, magazine, lead generation packets, and
written articles for web other outlets.
Manage lead generation program received from various marketing
campaigns and coordinate bulk mailings.
Chamber Committees
Tourism committee: Update the Tourism committee with annual goals,
provide new campaign ideas, share insights and stats, and provide
suggested budget and supporting documents for review before LTAC
application.
Marine Trade committee: Work with committee to manage website
hosting payments, MailChimp, PayPal and other accounts as needed.
Support work on the Marine Trades Directory including overseeing
print and mail ad invoices, track payments and send reminders for
overdue balances, work with website/directory designer to ensure
data is correct.
Retail Trade committee: Assists in creating marketing materials for
community sales, events, horse-drawn Trolley Rides, Thanksgiving,
Christmas and holiday shopping campaigns as needed.
Events & Communications
Create and execute a marketing plan for each event to ensure
chamber major events reach intended target market to maximize
participation. Create and distribute press kits; design materials
including ads, brochures, and sponsorship packages; manage event
websites, ticket sales, and social media.
Assist in the creation of graphics for Luncheon, BAH, Art Walk,
Coastal Christmas activities, and other events as needed.
Partner with other event producers to promote visitors to
attend.
Bi-Monthly e-Newsletter; assist in writing editorial content with
staff input.
Post-event data analysis: Survey attendees and produce reports that
include stats for overnight stays, shopping, dining, and overall
money spent while visiting Anacortes.
Handle all incoming emails from website.
Visitor Information Center
Apply to City of Anacortes to be a recipient of LTAC funds.
Administer and monitor expenditures for the volunteer program
against the approved budget. Report quarterly to the City of
Anacortes, and ensure timely reimbursement of grant monies.
Develop and implement goals and objectives for the VIC program
which reflect the mission of the organization. Track various
visitor statistics and develop a comprehensive report to help in
the planning of marketing and promotion campaigns for Chamber staff
and members.
Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered
by the VIC and implement improvements as necessary and assess the
need for volunteers to enhance program/service delivery.
Develop, update and produce VIC marketing pieces: Experience
Anacortes, Calendar of Events Rack Card, Clubs and Organizations
List, Real Estate Listing, Meeting Rooms).
Implement a screening process for potential volunteers according to
accepted screening standards and practices. Orient volunteers to
increase their understanding of the organization, its members, its
services and the roles and responsibilities of VIC volunteers.
Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition
activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the
organization.
Office Administration
Assist other office personnel as needed with mail coding,
distribution, and answering the office phone.
Support the development and maintenance of various revenue
generating projects including Cap Sante Map, e-Newsletter articles
and ads, and the Chamber Directory.
Education
Four year degree in a related field is desired.
Experience
Four to five years marketing and office experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks
simultaneously.
Ability to recruit, motivate and supervise volunteers.
Thorough and proven knowledge of advertising campaign management:
including print, radio, internet, and television.
Ability to negotiate best rates and placement.
Able to work with constant interruptions and re-focus.
Forecast web media buys based on prior campaigns.

Working Conditions
Marketing Director typically works in an office environment but may
also be required to perform in non-standard workplaces on occasion.
Remote work is available on occasion.
Although unusual, the Marketing Director may be required to work
some evenings and weekends.
Must be available to work festivals and special events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
