The campus is located in Bellingham, Washington, a coastal community of 83,000 overlooking Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands and the North Cascades Mountain range. About the Department The Department of Psychology has 33 permanent full-time faculty. In addition to our undergraduate B.S. psychology major, which places a strong emphasis on research methods and statistics, the Psychology department offers an undergraduate degree in behavioral neuroscience, and master?s programs in experimental psychology, school counseling, and mental health counseling (https://chss.wwu.edu/psychology). The department houses five primary areas of research and teaching expertise ? Developmental, Social, Abnormal, Cognitive, and Neuroscience? as well as the internationally recognized Center for Cross-Cultural Research. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Psychology Department support Western?s mission to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university that develops the potential of learners and the well-being of communities. About the Position This is an open area position under the umbrella of applied research methodology. Potential domains of focus might include such areas as: community psychology, applied cognitive, cross-cultural or multicultural psychology, aging, health, educational psychology, industrial/organizational, applied developmental, applied social, or applied clinical psychology. Methodological areas of focus might include basic and advanced applied quantitative methods, quasi-experimental design, qualitative methods, program evaluation, community-based participatory methods, or applied measurement. The successful candidate will have a strong, systematic, theory-based program of applied research. The candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate level in their area of expertise, as well as research methods and statistics. The candidate should also be prepared to teach content courses in a master?s level program. Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students, as well as service activities as appropriate. Required Qualifications + Doctorate completed by September 16, 2019 in Psychology or closely related discipline + Focus of scholarship includes applying psychological theory within a domain of applied psychology or applied research methodology + Commitment to applying psychological research methodologies to promote individual or community well-being + Publication record commensurate with experience + Teaching experience commensurate with experience and a commitment to excellence in teaching, an ability to contribute to our curriculum, including in our undergraduate statistics and research methodology courses + Demonstrated ability to mentor students in research or community projects + Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion + This position is subject to a fingerprint background check Preferred Qualifications + Prior independent research experience applying psychological theory and research methodologies to real-world phenomena + The ability to bridge more than one domain within psychology, or between psychology and other disciplines + Experience with cutting edge computational data science tools Salary Commensurate with experience and qualifications Bargaining Unit United Faculty of Western Washington Application Instructions Please submit your application to Dr. Barbara Lehman and Dr. Tina Du Rocher Schudlichthrough Western?s PageUp system (www.wwu.edu/jobs).
