Position Overview: Astound Broadband Powered by Wave is currently searching for a Fiber Design Engineer II in our Bellingham, WA office. The Fiber Optic Network Design Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring quality and timely deliveries of our fiber services along with additional services to customers. Skilled in network design and engineering with an understanding of OSP construction.The primary position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Planning and designing fiber routes
• Analyze OTDR traces, evaluate characteristics of fiber, and document test results
• Work with Construction PM's and/or field personnel to ensure quality and timely delivery of our services
• May perform quality checks of mapping and network design and approve design and/or construction changes
• Assist in troubleshooting fiber circuits
• Design and document fiber splicing and fiber patch assignments for fiber circuits
• Maintain appropriate technical documentation
• Analyze and recommend upgrade/expansion strategies
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc. as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook)
  • Work flexible hours, after hours work which would include nights and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned -Our ideal candidate will possess:
    • At least 2 years experience with fiber optic network documentation tools (OSP Insight preferred)
    • Must be proficient and have at least 2 years experience with AutoCAD and 5 years' experience with AutoCAD Map
    • Must be proficient and have at least 5 years of design and drafting experience as related to HFC OSP
    • Must have at least five years experience with Lode Data design software -
    • Knowledge of GIS mapping and the use of AutoCAD to update county GIS land data in existing AutoCAD map files is necessary
    • Strong communication skills and a cooperative attitude toward co-workers
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including after hours, nights and weekends
    • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic -
    • Ability to provide high productivity with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work independently and sufficient experience with computers
    • Ability to think creatively and strategically
