Bellingham Technical College invites applications for one full-time, Tenure Track Nursing Instructor. The position reports to the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and is expected to begin in September, 2021. However, one or more full-time annualized positions may also be available for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. This applicant pool may be used to hire more than one nursing position.

Instructors are responsible to plan, teach, and manage student learning in all aspects of the Associate Degree Nursing Program including classroom, lab and clinic instruction; instruct Nursing students in the approved Bellingham Technical College ADN curriculum and teach the State of Washington required competencies.

The teaching schedule will vary based on student and college needs and is expected to include instructional strategies that use in-person, simulation, and online techniques. Instruction will include practical projects for students in addition to individual labs. Instructors are responsible to plan, teach, and manage student learning in all assigned portions of the program including classroom and lab according to approved course study, state guidelines, program accreditation standards, and advisory committee recommendations. This instructor needs strong positive interpersonal skills, the ability to work closely with other instructors and good computer and internet skills.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, update, implement, and revise new and existing courses, curriculum, and lesson plans as needed to meet changing industry skills, standards and competencies;
  • Plan, supervise and evaluate student progress in the Nursing Program;
  • Maintain related student records, evaluations and progress reports as required by the State of Washington and Bellingham Technical College;
  • Participate in program management; including committee work and program approval and accreditation processes;
  • Consult with other College faculty and staff on issues relevant to student success and retention;
  • Develop and implement institutional effectiveness and outcomes measures related to Nursing courses;
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement clinical placement for program students.
  • In addition, responsibilities will include:
  • Develop, plan, implement and maintain the program budget;
  • Advising students;
  • Participate in student recruitment activities;
  • Monitor and document student performance;
  • Work with the program advisory committee;
  • Requisition instructional supplies, materials, and equipment;
  • Work with local, regional and national employers to facilitate job and internship opportunities;
  • Participate in campus events;
  • Serve on campus-wide committees;
  • Hold office hours;
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical College's Mission; contribute to college-wide goals and activities;

Perform other program responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing and enrollment in a Master's Degree in Nursing program;
  • Active unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Washington state or ability to obtain license by September 1, 2021;
  • A minimum of two years of clinicalexperience as a Registered Nurse.

New instructors must complete Healthcare Provider CPR and maintain vocational certification as required by the Washington State Law and Bellingham Technical College rules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing;
  • PhD in Nursing or related field;
  • Four years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse;
  • Experience supervising students;
  • Experience using computer applications for instructional purposes and clinical documentation (Online learning platforms like Canvas, ATI, vSIM, EMR systems).

  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of student records;

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

Supplemental Information

Salary Statement & Work Schedule:

Base salary range is typically $56,653 to $70,900 for an applicant with minimal levels of teaching and education experience and is based on a typical teaching schedule of 10 months, September through June, 173 days. High end of range is $80,011 for those with previous related teaching experience and advanced educational degrees. An additional Nursing Premium of between $16,000 to $21,000 will be paid above the base salary. Final placement is determined according to the current negotiated working agreement and based on an evaluation of work and/or teaching experience. Additional optional compensation may be paid above the 173 day contract rate subject to terms of the collective bargaining agreement. This position is also eligible for a Washington State insurance and retirement benefits package. Schedule may vary and include evening and weekend work.

Other Employment Information:

This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Bellingham Educational Association (BEA).

Background Check & Immunization Records: Prior to final hire, a criminal background check and routine check with the Washington State Nursing Commission for complaints will be conducted. Faculty clinical passport with updated immunizations and eligibility for employment with local health-care facilities is required. Prior to final hire, a pre-employment background, including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted. Employment is contingent on passing the background check and signed declaration per RCW 28b.112.080 satisfactory to the college. Information from the background check and declaration will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. This position has access to children under the age of 18 as part of the State of Washington Running Start Program.
