Job Description:

The Fire Chief directs the overall operations of the all- hazard organization delivering essential emergencyand non- emergency services to the community and greater area to include fire suppression, fireeducation and prevention, special operations, and EMS services. The Chief is tasked with establishinghigh levels of trust and credibility through a style of collaboration and teamwork while reflecting decisiveleadership when required.Serving as a member of the City' s senior management team, the Chief collaborates with the Mayor andother City departments on strategy and policy. Work involves significant community engagement andpublic involvement with the Mayor, elected officials, other policy makers and citizens. The ideal candidatewill bring demonstrated organizational development and interpersonal relationship skills necessary tosupport a fire department and build collaborative, strategic partnerships with staff and the community. Education & Experience Bachelor' s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in fire science, publicadministration, or a closely related field. Eight years of progressively responsible fire and EMS servicesincluding suppression, prevention, training, emergency management, and advanced life pletion of a National Fire Academy Executive Officer program is highly desirable. Budgetpreparation and labor relations experience preferred. Ideal Candidate The Fire Chief plays a key role in accomplishing the City' s mission. The successful candidate will have ademonstrated record of accomplishments and leadership in the Fire and EMS fields. The successfulcandidate will demonstrate: Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to cultivaterelationships, rapport, credibility and partnerships Expertise in organizational development/ design and change management A solution- oriented and proactive approach Ability to develop networks and build alliances and to collaborate across boundaries to buildstrategic relationships and achieve common goals Problem solving and consensus building skills in a team environment The ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff,elected officials, other districts and the community Knowledge of federal, state, and city rules and regulations governing firefighting functions andemergency medical services Knowledge of fire services including suppression, prevention, training, emergency management,and ALS Principles and practices of general business management, including fiscal and budgetmanagement Knowledge of and experience with the collective bargaining process, labor negotiations, and civilservice rules Compensation & BenefitsSalary Range: $ 102, 000 - $ 125, 000 DOQ Benefits Include: Choice between Medical Plans with Prescription Coverage, Dental & Vision Washington State Public Employees Retirement Systems 1( PERS) Deferred Compensation Programs Life & LTD Insurance Flexible Spending Plans Employee Assistance Program Vacation, Sick Leave & Paid Holidays Exchange Time Accrual To Apply Candidates are required to complete and submit a City of Anacortes job application, supplementalquestion responses (limit to one page each, resume, and cover letter.
