Job Summary

Directs the operations of the camp food service program.


Manages the ordering and delivery of all food and supplies. Coordinates the pick up of food and supplies as necessary from various locations, including unloading and storing of merchandise. Monitors usage patterns and tracks inventory through accurate record keeping. Maintains cost effectiveness by researching potential vendors and ordering efficiently. Ensures all regulations and standards pertaining to food services are in compliance with guidelines established by the Washington State health codes, USDA regulatory practices and ACA standards. Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises all food service staff. Gives support and direction to volunteer workers as appropriate. Maintains safety and security of kitchen area through monitoring of procedures and equipment. Coordinates special menu (e.g.. diabetic) planning and related food purchasing. Coordinates with camp dietician as necessary. Maintains good working relationship with camp physicians, county health officials, food service vendors and other professional staff. Manages all food preparation through supervision of staff. Performs cooking and baking duties as necessary. Plans and coordinates a variety of menus which provide nutrition, are cost effective and are appealing to campers.


Bachelor's degree in restaurant management or equivalent. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered. Three or more years of experience in managing a food service operation. Knowledge of nutrition, health standards, kitchen operations, and record keeping is necessary. Requires skill in food preparation, cooking, baking, food and supply purchasing, menu planning, general maintenance, and personnel management. Current health card, CPR and First Aid certifications are required. Basic knowledge of personal computers preferred, including spreadsheet, database and word processing programs. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
