Mechanical HD Repair Technician

Job Description:

Responsible for bumper to bumper repair of diesel trucks including diagnosing, adjusting and repairing all series of motor trucks, including, but not limited to the following: engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and drivelines.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.

2. Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.

3. Maintain work area appearance and safety.

4. Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.

5. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.

6. Maintain a clean, safe working condition and practices within the department. Attends and participates in all relevant training programs established by the company and OSHA guidelines. Immediately reports any safety issues to management.

Education &Experience: High School diploma/trade school preferred. Prefers a minimum of 5 years of general and diesel experience with Heavy Duty Trucks.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Must be experienced with Hydraulic press. Must be forklift certified or obtain it within 6 months of hire date. * General understanding of how to use basic tools and torches. * Ability to work independently without constant supervision. * Previous supervisory experience with the ability to effectively listen and resolve issues as they come up. Knowledge as to when the situation needs intervention from an upper level manager. * Strong knowledge of EPA rules, OSHA regulations and Standard safety with hazardous chemicals and adhere to all required standards. * Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license; clean MVR, current auto insurance and the ability to drive a standard transmission vehicle. Must have CDL in order to perform test drives.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Work Environment: Majority of the work is done in the shop area and in the yard. Will be exposed to routine hazards and the work environment of the truck repair industry. While in the shop area will work on concrete floors, sometimes wet environment, moderate noise is typical, with occasional exposure to loud noises, moderate exposure to air borne particles and fumes, and moderate exposure to hot, cold (non-weather), some risk of electrical shock. Some time is spent outdoors and exposure to weather. Some work is conducted in an office environment with moderate and typical noise levels, moderate exposure to air borne particles and fumes.

Physical Activities: Physically demanding position requires continuous standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing and using hands to handle or feel. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, or balancing. Normal peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point) and depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances, and spatial relationships) required. Corrected or normal 20/20 vision to be able to see defects in material, small parts, leaks, etc. Required to wear steel-toed boots, have good reflexes and handle power machinery. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. above shoulders and ability to occasionally lift up to 75lbs.

Materials & equipment used: Standard office equipment including but not limited to: desktop computer, calculator, fax machine, telephone, photocopier and related accessories. May be required occasional use of small hand tools, dual action pneumatic sander, battery charger, numerous cleaning and mechanical fluids, lifts, tire mounting and dismounting, floor jack, floor jack stands, mig welder, oxy acetyl welder. Torch, strut compressor, press, oil drain pan, transmission jack, overhead engine support, cherry picker/engine hoist, mighty mover, forklift. Job specific safety equipment not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer some tech school; 5+years’ experience diagnosing, overhauling, adjusting and repairing all series of motor trucks, including, but not limited to the following: engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and drivelines.

Pay Rate: $16.50/hour

You could be eligible for a retention bonus up to $1,200.00
