*Please apply directly to : **JOB DESCRIPTION**Position Title: *Paraeducator -MLL *(Multilingual Language Learner)**Department/School: *one position at Vista Middle School and one position split between Eagleridge Elementary and Horizon Middle School*Classification/Union Group*PSE*Reports To: *Building Principal or his/her designee*SKILLS/JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR MLL (Multilingual Language Learner) PARAEDUCATOR POSITIONS* - Support students for whom English is not their first language. - Test students. - Read and understand state ELPA testing for placement of students. - Perform filing, data collection, scheduling, and preparing curriculum. - Work with certificated staff to scaffold or differentiate material for MLL students. - Attend SST meetings and conferences (occasionally home visits) - Knowledge of the basic language acquisition stages and be culturally aware.*Position Purpose/Overview*Assist certificated staff in the education of students including management of student behavior; recordkeeping; instructional assistance; classroom safety; security and organization; and interaction and communication with students, support staff, parents/guardians, and agencies.Paraeducators working in special education programs work with a variety of students who are in need of academic assistance and have learning, communication, and behavioral or emotional disabilities.*Education and Experience/Desired Qualifications*State Requirement:* At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, *and** Receive a passing grade on the education testing service paraeducator assessment (Para Pro Test); *or** Hold an associates of arts degree; *or** Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty- eight semester credits at an institution of higher learning. - Willing to obtain/maintain all district and state required training related to the position (i.e., First Aid, Right Response, Safe Schools, Fundamental Course of Study, Skyward, technology and other professional development). - Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance - Successful background check - I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.*Essential Job Functions* - Provide one-on-one and small group instruction as directed by a certificated staff member. - Maintain awareness of physical and emotional changes in students and report concerns to teacher or child protection services if appropriate. - Ensure personal and student safety pursuant to established procedures when working with students who may have infectious diseases. - Supervise students, including in large groups and in less structured areas, in accordance with district and building policies and procedures and provide positive behavioral support and management. - Support the health needs of students. - Relate effectively with students, teachers, parents, district staff and supervisor. - Has an appropriate awareness of the way in which technology can assist in teaching and learning (access to technology and job role considered). - Correct completed work assignments and record data. - Accept direction willingly. - Take appropriate initiative and follow through on tasks independently. - Enter sub notes as needed. - Maintain regular attendance. - Perform related duties as assigned.*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's)**Knowledge of: * - Basic reading, writing, and math. - Child and adolescent development.*Ability to: * - Successfully supervise students in a variety of school settings (outside, lunchroom, hallways, classrooms and common areas). - Work without immediate supervision in direct one-on-one and small group instruction according to teacher/supervisor directions and planning. - Assist students in use of computers in the classroom. - Work collaboratively as a member of a professional team. - Adapt to individual needs of teachers and students. - Work well with others from diverse backgrounds. - Maintain a high level of integrity and commitment. - Maintain confidentiality and practice ethical and professional standards of conduct according to state/district policies and procedures. - Remain calm and professional in work environment. - Respond quickly in emergency situations. - Be flexible with frequent interruptions and changes to schedule according to building and student needs. - Multi-task and adjust workload to building priorities. - Read and understand instructions, teaching manuals, and/or guides. Communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing. - Travel to different sites, if needed. - Use standard office and classroom equipment.*Physical Requirements *(i.e., sitting, standing, lifting, carrying, walking, and fine motor skills. Also cognitive demands like visual and perceptual skills, attention, and memory)The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; bending, and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. Work with students in crisis.
