Job Description:

The Coding Specialist codes diagnoses, operations and treatments accurately using approved coding conventions for hospital services. This position reviews patient records and daily reports to accurately assign appropriate ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes and determines DRG or other groupers as determined by payers timely and within established productivity benchmarks.
Duties:

• Codes diagnoses, operations and treatments accurately using approved coding conventions for hospital services. Works with Medical Staff to secure appropriate code assignment and sequencing of codes. Groups codes into appropriate DRG and/or APC using Meditech and 3M groupers. Abstracts data into Meditech.
• Processes Meditech Billing Tasks & emails in relation to coding-specific needs timely to avoid negative impacts on A/R; prioritize workload to assure accounts are coded timely
• Tracks & reports daily productivity to management
• Must demonstrate good understanding of documentation requirements to identify when data does not explain "the whole picture" and accurately evaluate when additional physician information is needed; clear communication with Medical Staff in requesting additional information to code correctly and fully
• Must adhere to coding guidelines, coding appropriately based on all documentation Requirements:
  • Eligible to take Certified Coder Exam and become certified within 6 months from hire date.
  • Minimum two (2) year multi-specialty physician or hospital coding experience is preferred.

    Salary Range: $19.97-$29.66 per hour
