POSITION DESCRIPTION The Metal Fabrication and Machining Estimator serves as the estimator and coordinator within the Metal Shop. As part of the Metals team, the incumbent coordinates and independently executes assigned activities that are carried out to satisfy project objectives. The following essential job functions are performed as a Metal Fabrication and Machining Estimator: * Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs. * Generate detailed cost estimates for ready to build projects. * Work with the sales team on submitting bids. * Calculate material measurements to verify specifications and price accordingly. * Read technical drawings and operate CAD programs to extract data required for estimating. * Demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment. * Take the lead on managing build to print projects. * Providing presentations, updates and instructions as needed. * Facilitates communication and consultation with production; oversees project manufacturing. * Serves as the coordinator in the metal shop floor by working with the team to develop and analyze schedules and budgets. * Enforces 5S and AS9100 Standards and Practices throughout all work performed. * Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN OR LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT FOR THIS POSITION PROOF OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY REQUIRED DUE TO ACCESS TO SENSITIVE DATA AND OUR COVERAGE UNDER EAR AND ITAR REGULATIONS. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE * Minimum requirement for all positions is a high school diploma or GED. * Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in machine shop and/or sheet metal fabrication. * Must have extensive knowledge of all aspects of metal fabrication, including welding and machining methods, tooling, materials, and hardware required to manufacture parts, in a lean manufacturing environment. * Must have 1-3 years of experience in a project management role and/or capacity. * Must have experience with cost estimation or budget management experience. * Must be able to rely on extensive experience, problem-solving skills, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. * Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products and project planning software. * Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. * Must be willing and able to obtain a government issued security clearance. COMPETENCIES * Experience with CATIA and NX CAD software is required. * SAP experience strongly preferred. * Strong communication skills through written, verbal, and graphical mediums. * Must have excellent communication, teambuilding, and customer service skills. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required. * Detailed understanding of the product development and product realization processes. * Able to handle demanding schedules. * Competency in project planning and management process. * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. * Requires a high level of initiative, judgment, and discipline. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED Computer, printer, fax machine, phone WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to work at keyboard for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform physical tasks on the production floor on occasion. May involve use of tools or climbing on parts. Physical hazards such as being in the immediate area with forklifts and other heavy equipment unavoidable. Chemical hazards in production work areas may be unavoidable.
