Description:
- The Marine Electricians will be installing and maintaining
electrical wiring and equipment on Coast Guard Vessels. Among their
responsibilities include understanding diagrams and blueprints,
upgrading systems, responding to complaints and concerns,
inspecting systems, troubleshooting problems, handling fixtures and
outlets, and replacing electrical components. They must also
conduct regular maintenance checks, performing repairs as needed.
It will also be essential to maintain an active communication line
with staff, coordinating for a safe and efficient workflow.
- Repair or replace wiring equipment or fixtures
- Examine electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using
testing devices like ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes
- Use power construction equipment, measuring devices, power
tools, and testing equipment
- Diagnose faulty systems or parts, using equipment and hand
tools to find the reason for a breakdown
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or parts to spot hazards
or defects
- Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to see the placement of
wiring or equipment
- Work on the installation of ground leads and connect power
cables to equipment
- Direct or train other employees to put in, maintain, or repair
electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures
- Perform routine and annual maintenanceSkills:Electrical,

install, and repair electrical equipment and fixtures.--- Remove,
install diverse types of cable tray systems.--- Troubleshoot motor
and control systems.--- Perform routine maintenance on electrical
wiring and systems.--- Build control panels.--- Ability to use hand
and power tools.--- Ability to work in limited spaces--- Own set of
tools required for the job.--- Understanding how to use a
multi-meter.--- Understanding of proper safety and abide to all
quality rules instructed.Under the Coast Guard "service life
extension" program, the Coast Guard appointed Birdon America to
redesign and upgrade its aging fleet of 117 motor lifeboats. The
boats were reaching the end of their 25-year lifespan. The contract
with Birdon is meant to upgrade the boat's performance and add
another 20 years to their service. That work was to be carried out
